      Officer Training

      It's a golden opportunity for all young Sri Lankans to be an officer and a gentleman/lady of high calibre, capable and innovative in a challenging sea faring career, in any of the following branches in the Sri Lanka Navy.

      * Electrical & Electronics * Dental * Provost * Music

      Presently officer training is mainly conducted at the Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA) Trincomalee and short / specialised officer training is conducted at the Sri Lanka Naval Ship Gemunu, Welisara. This training includes theoretical aspects covered at the training institute followed by a practical exposure onboard the Sri Lanka Navy fleet at sea.

      Officers' Entry Schemes

      Cadet Entry Degree Programme

      Have passed General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) with minimum qualifying results for University admission.

      Cadet Entry Non-Degree Programme

      Have passed General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level).

      Direct Entry Stream for Regular Force

      Should have a Degree from a recognized University or Higher National Diploma (minimum one year duration) with two years working experience.

      Volunteer Stream

      Should have a Degree from a recognized University or Higher National Diploma (minimum one year duration) with two years working experience.

      Service Entry

      Ratings with special aptitudes, qualifications & outstanding Leadership abilities are selected, trained & granted a commission.

      Eligibility for Cadet Entry Officers
      * Citizen of Sri Lanka * Weight 110 lbs
      * Unmarried males * Chest 32 inches (minimum)
      * Age between 18-22 years * Vision Colour STD II
      * Height 5'6" * Distance 6/6 each eye
      * Efficiency Test for Cadet Entry Officers
      Eligibility for Direct Entry/Volunteer Officers
      * Citizen of Sri Lanka * Height: Male 5'6", Female 5'3"
      * Unmarried males * Chest 32 inches (minimum)
      * Married/Unmarried (Males/Females) * Distance 6/6 each eye
      * Chest Male 32 inches (minimum) * Vision Colour STD II
      * Weight: Male-115lbs Female-90lbs  

      Officers on completion of their basic training, are offered the advance courses in following fields, mostly abroad.

      * Technological * Naval combat related
      * Specialization * Modern warfare/equipment training
      * Management * Staff Colleges
      * Administration * National Defence Colleges

      Selections for limited berths in basic training abroad (International Midshipmen course at the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, UK or the Sub Lieutenant Technical (Executive) course in India or Bangladesh etc) will be based on performance during training.


      Service Benefits

      To increase the welfare and well being of the officers and sailors in Sri Lanka Navy with the aim of boosting up the morale and enhancing the productivity, following services and welfare measures have being organized

      Free Meals, Accommodation, Uniforms and Traveling

      All officers and sailors receive meals, lodging, uniforms and traveling free of charge.

      Medical & Dental Care

      Practitioners and facilities are available to all members and their families.


      Avenues are opened to excel at international level in any sport include Shooting and Sailing.


      After completing a period of service, Government loan benefits can be obtained. Holiday Resorts Navy encourages Naval families to proceed to Naval holiday resorts available island wide.
